ESTIMATOR

As a Construction Estimator with Western Utility, you will use your expertise to help secure work with current and new clients. You will deliver contract proposal estimates, post-award purchase orders and subcontracts on a wide variety of Underground Utility construction projects which include pipeline, underground electrical, telecommunications and sewer/water.

AS AN ESTIMATOR, YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Preparing and assembling bid proposals including completing detailed estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work and soliciting pricing from qualified vendors and subcontractors.
  • Reviewing proposal specifications and drawings.
  • Attending pre-bid meetings to determining the scope of work.
  • Researching, negotiating and preparing purchase orders and subcontracts for awarded projects.
  • Participating in pre-job meetings with project management personnel.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of three years of relevant construction estimating experience in variousTelecom, Electric, Pipeline and Water & Sewer
  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in construction management, engineering or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop and maintain good working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, suppliers and other business partners.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • The drive to deliver high-quality work under very strict deadlines.
  • General working proficiency of estimating and takeoff software including Microsoft programs.

SUPERINTENDENT

As a Superintendent with Western Utility, you will oversee all daily activities of the jobsite, managing craft union personnel and subcontractors. You will ensure that the work is performed in a safe and organized manner, complying with the company’s safety and quality programs. It is your responsibility to ensure that the project is completed on time, within budget and to specifications.

AS A SUPERINTENDENT, YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Managing the activities of subcontractors, vendors and labor on the jobsite.
  • Planning schedules and maintaining project schedule controls.
  • Identifying and reporting problems or deficiencies to project management.
  • Documenting on-site activities that may impede progress or compliance to the project.
  • Reviewing change orders prior to execution and subcontract agreements for each trade.
  • Maintaining strict control over the budget for each work activity.
  • Coordinating receipt of and inventory of all owner supplied materials.
  • Assisting in preparation of project status reports.
  • Providing status and photos weekly.
  • Coordinating pertinent work activities.
  • Attending project progress/scheduling meetings.
  • Maintaining open communication and goodwill with all involved in the project.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of ten years of relevant construction operations experience in either gas pipeline, underground electrical/civil, telecommunications and sewer/water.
  • The ability to travel as needed (our projects are located throughout the Midwest and Florida, so it is crucial that you have the ability and willingness to travel to out-of-town project assignments for up to 18-24 months, with travel home every-other weekend).
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • The ability to coach and develop people, negotiate, create a collaborative environment, reduce liability and overcome daily challenges.
  • Effective communication skills required to delegate tasks, communicate with your team and lead highly technical people.
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be familiar with working in a unionized labor environment.

PROJECT MANAGER

As a Project Manager with Western Utility, you will coordinate and oversee the execution of construction projects in the safest manner possible and in compliance with the client’s documents and quality requirements.

AS A PROJECT MANAGER, YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Interfacing with the client and representing Western Utility in all correspondence and meetings.
  • Developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of all contract documents.
  • Developing and/or analyzing preliminary project documentation.
  • Organizing and planning the execution of the physical work.
  • Developing the project schedule and directing its planning and execution.
  • Communicating/coordinating the schedule and plan with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Recognizing on-site activities which may impede project progress or jeopardize compliance to project/contract requirements.
  • Preparing and submitting related informational documents to the client or other responsible parties and implement corrective measures.
  • Maintaining strict control of the project budget for each work activity.
  • Reporting monthly on the progress and current profitability of the project.
  • Writing subcontracts and purchase orders for field generated purchases and contracts.
  • Supervising the project activities of the on-site superintendents, craft and staff.
  • Promoting goodwill with clients to facilitate construction activities and future repeat business.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of five years of project management experience in the Underground Utility construction markets which include gas pipeline, underground electrical/civil, telecommunications and sewer/water.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or relevant discipline preferred.
  • The ability to travel as needed (our projects are located throughout the Midwest and Florida, so it is crucial that you have the ability and willingness to travel to out-of-town project assignments for up to 18-24 months, with travel home every-other weekend).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required and the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships required.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills and the ability manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Software skills in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel) required; estimating and scheduling software skills preferred.
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be familiar with working in a unionized labor environment.

 

CONSTRUCTION PLANNER/SCHEDULER

 

Western Utility is seeking a Planner/Scheduler to work in its principal office in University Park, Illinois.

AS A CONSTRUCTION PLANNER/SCHEDULER, YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • The Construction Scheduler is responsible for the planning and scheduling of all construction work, ensuring project efficiency and profitability.

  • The Construction Planner/Scheduler will identify and report significant schedule risks or problems and will monitor schedules to ensure compliance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • 0-2 years of experience
  • Must be proficient with MS Office
  • Experience with Primavera 6
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication and leadership skill set
  • Ability to take initiative, work well under pressure, and work independently or under executive direction
  • Ability to coordinate and work within teams and interact with all levels in the organization, including management and field employees
  • Demonstrates good judgement and strong organizational skills
